Your pillow may not be the problem

I hear this all the time: I’ve tried lots of pillows but the pain keeps coming back. I think my neck problem is because of my pillow or bed. What kind of pillow is best? I just need to stretch more or lose weight. My question to the other person is… how long has the pain been there for? What else have you tried to fix the problem? Massage? Pain pills? Stretching? Etc.. If your pain has been going on for several weeks now, the issue may not be your bed, pillow or lack of stretching.

Chronic pain such as neck pain and back pain take day/weeks/months/years to develop. Our body consists of an accumulation of injuries, overuse activities or repetitive positions. That’s why one day you may feel great then over time we notice health issues creep up. Take for example neck pain. You may have had a minor car accident years ago, have worked at a desk job for 5 years, and you play lots of video games on your phone. This accumulation of things is likely what caused you neck pain. Yes the pillow can play a role, but after changing pillow after pillow and the pain is still there… well it sounds like it’s not a pillow problem.

The reason I get great results and relief for people with chronic back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, headaches, hip pain, etc.. is because the accumulation of stuff causes vertebral subluxations or stress to occur on the nervous system. That stress on the nervous system is the cause of the symptoms and pain. Be removing interference on the nervous system, the body’s innate ability to heal is working more efficiently. That’s why chiropractic can help with chronic pain, because we’re addressing the cause of the pain, not just treating the symptoms.
